The Letter

The past should always belong to the past. A place that we, as emotional beings, should never go back to despite how intoxicating the promise of lingering in better memories seems. The truth is, the past is often disappointing, even more so when we try to reconnect with it expecting that we might be able to change it for the better. After all, it is not called The Past for nothing. Learn from it but never, ever try to reach for something or someone you left there. You would be consumed by it. If only poor Lady Ashburd had known about the dangerous extent of reading a letter. A single letter, paragraphs on top of paragraphs filled with the all-too familiar charms of a meaningful person that she had abandonned in order to answer her duty of someone ele's bride-to-be. If only she could have tempered her silenced passion for this figure of the past.. Some calls are better left unanswered.
